As of late, we’ve seen somewhat of a drought when it comes to dark, crime drama filled mystery shows. The popular go-to choices have either been delayed due to Coronavirus (like Riverdale, Netflix’s You) or wrapped up with their series finales earlier in the year (like How To Get Away With Murder). It is noteworthy to mention the new HBO Max original “The Flight Attendant” which might do very well to scratch that itch. But there’s another dark gritty crime drama that’s been off most audience’s radar for quite some time now. That show of course being, Extracurricular. Extracurricular is a Korean based crime drama, or K-series as they’re sometimes called. It is a Netflix original that aired in the April of 2020.
Release Date: Extracurricular Season 2
Netflix has not renewed Extracurricular for a second season. This maybe is due to the fact that the show did not find a large enough audience in order to be renewed. This is a pitfall that many other shows have fallen victim to despite having very good reception from audiences, some notable examples being The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina or Santa Clarita Diet. But hope is not lost, a last-minute renewal is always possible as long as the fanbase is potent enough to warrant it. Even though there has been no news of a renewal, just as stated before. There has also not been an official announcement that confirms the cancellation of the series.
Cast: Extracurricular Season 2
There have been no announcements about the future of the show as shared by Netflix or the showrunners. Hence it is difficult to confirm the addition of new cast members in the second season of Extracurricular. Here is the main cast of Extracurricular, for the first season at least:
- Kim Dong-Hee in the role of Oh Ji Soo
- Park Joo-Hyun in the role of Bae Gyuri
- Da-bin Jung in the role of Seo Minhee
- Nam Yoon-Su in the role of Kwak Kitae
- Min-Su Choi in the role of Mr. Lee
- Hyuk-Kwon Park in the role of Cho Jinwoo
Plot: Extracurricular Season 2
The end of season one of Extracurricular is open to interpretation. On one hand, it is possible that the two main leads escaped to France. This is backed by the fact that a French song plays at the ending of the show. Alternatively, it is possible that Oh Ji and Bae could have simply gone into hiding. Whichever camp you’re in, it is agreeable that the season ended in a very satisfying manner. The protagonist Oh Ji made a lot of hard decisions in the first season, and in the end, came to face the consequences. I’m sure the excellent writers behind this show will find a very clever way to move forward with the story if that so happens.
Storyline: Extracurricular Season 2
Extracurricular is about a high school student who takes on a life of crime in order to make money and survive. Then one day, while juggling these two dual lives of high school and crime, one of Oh Ji’s classmates finds out his dark secret and begins to blackmail him. This other classmate being Gyuri. Over the course of the show, Gyuri causes a sequence of events that leads to Oh Ji losing all of the money he made of his second life. Leaving him in a very difficult position as to how he will continue his life. Feeling sorry, Gyuri then helps Oh Ji make up the money she lost by partnering with him. Both of them set upon a dark and dangerous path that leads takes them through some very precarious situations. To find out how they navigate this dangerous underworld, you can check out the first season of Extracurricular which is currently streaming on Netflix. Maybe with a surge in views, a second season might not be that far along after all.
